What to do when things go wrong

Jesus was speaking to His disciples just before His crucifixion, which was about to be a pretty intense crisis for His followers. As we read through the account of Jesus’ arrest, beating, crucifixion, death and burial, we can see that they didn’t remember that He had said that all this would happen and that He would rise from the dead three days later. They appeared hopeless. Peter even denied knowing Jesus when people confronted Him about it. And yet Jesus prepared them for it. He started out by saying,

John 14:1 KJV
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

What happens to you isn't as important as how you respond to the things which happen. Jesus said that in this world we would have trouble (John 16:33). So we are not guaranteed a trouble free life, but we can “take heart” (or have courage) knowing that Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33), and because we’re in Him, we have also overcome the world (1 John 4:4; 5:4). We can’t prevent bad things in life from happening, but how we respond to bad things can determine a better outcome. With the right focus and response to a crisis, and with the authority we have in Christ, we can turn the situation around.

What Jesus is saying here in John 14:1 is significant! “Allow” reveals that the condition of your heart is in your control. Most people don’t like hearing this because it’s easier to blame someone or something else rather than accept responsibility, but knowing this truth will set you free and empower you to live in even greater victory! Jesus is saying that we have control over our hearts; that we either allow our hearts to be troubled, or we prevent our hearts from being troubled. It’s all got to do with your focus. Are you focused on whats going wrong and the negative potential of the crisis, or are you focused on the Lord and His Word? You determine if you experience peace in life or not. You choose to be troubled or not.

Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”

Perfect peace is not something that comes upon you like a cold; it’s not something that just happens unexpectedly. Perfect peace is a natural by-product of having your mind focused on God, trusting in God and His Word. Perfect peace is the result of knowing (believing) that God is faithful and His Word is true.

The fact that Jesus says to “let not your heart be troubled” (control your emotions) first, is significant. If you indulge in your emotions and allow them to run away with you, you will find it difficult to rein them in later.

Romans 8:6 KJV
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Proverbs 18:21 KJV
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”

Especially in a crisis, but even out of a crisis: Guard your heart: what you think about, and guard your tongue: what you say.

Carnal mindedness isn’t necessarily sinful thoughts. It can simply be having a focus on the wrong things, things that are carnal (of the five senses; what you see, feel and experience). The Bible says that carnal mindedness results in death. But on the flip-side, being spiritually minded (focused on God and His Word) results in life and peace. We all want life and peace but it’s funny how many people prefer to be carnally minded, rather than spiritually minded. Then we blame something or someone (even God) for the mess we’re in. We’d rather meditate on and talk about what the doctor says, and how bad things are, rather than talking about the solution and what God’s Word says. We planted seeds of death through our carnal thinking and then wonder why we’re not experiencing all God has for us?

The Bible says that the tongue has power to produce life and death, and yet we’d rather speak death and hope for life. We’d rather tell everyone, even people we just met, how bad things are, and then we’re upset and confused as to why we’re in fear and why things are not getting better? It’s because we’re reaping what we’ve sown through our thought life, and through speaking out our unbelief and fear.

When things go wrong, don’t freak out. Relax. Remember what God’s Word says and choose perfect peace. If you’re struggling to control your emotions and your mind and tongue, then keep your mind busy by listening to good teaching (like my #WarOnSickness series) and reading the promises of God in the Word. Flood your heart and mind with the Word. Don’t give the devil a moment of opportunity to distract you from keeping your heart and mind fix on God and His promises, and you will experience life and peace.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: I will not panic. I will not fear. Greater is Jesus in me than anything I could face in this world. Although I may have troubles, Jesus has overcome the world, and I am in Him. I am born of God and therefore I have overcome the world. I will not focus or think on anything negative. I will not speak anything negative. I will only think what God says, I will only speak what God’s Word says, and I will only experience life and peace, in Jesus’ Name!

Ephesians 2:8 ESV
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”

Salvation (which includes healing, deliverance and prosperity) has been given to us by God’s grace; all we need to do to experience them is receive them by faith. So, are you ready for the secret to experiencing great miracle working faith? When I realized this great truth I broke through into a realm where I experienced more results than ever before.

The secret to having great miracle working faith is not holiness or Bible knowledge. It’s more profound than that. At the same time it’s more simple and takes all the pressure off you to perform or live up to some set of standards. Here goes… all you need to do is realize that faith isn’t something you need to get, and it isn’t something you can ask God for. You’ve already got it. Now don’t blow this off because it’s so simple. Read on.

This verse in Ephesians shows us that faith is not of our own doing (so relax, all the pressure is off) but rather it is a free gift from God. There is no lack of faith in the believer – there is only a lack of knowledge of what the believer has.

Romans 12:3 KJV (emphasis mine)
"God hath dealt to every man THE measure of faith"

Some translations say that you’ve been given “a” measure of faith, and many people conclude that we all have different measures of faith, but the idea this verse is trying to bring across is that we’ve all got the same amount of faith. God does not discriminate; He has given every believer the same amount of faith. You don’t need more faith, all you need is to discover what you have, and use it. “My people perish for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6) not because of a lack of faith.

Galatians 2:20 KJV (emphasis mine)
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Paul did not say that he lived by faith in Jesus, but by the faith of Jesus. There’s a big difference. Yes, we need to believe in Jesus, but we’ll only get the results Jesus got if we use the faith Jesus had. Would you rather have wealth in a company, or the wealth of a company? Most definitely the wealth OF a company – that’s much more valuable.

Philemon 1:6 KJV
"that the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus."

Believers around the world are begging God for more faith, begging for a healing or blessings not realizing that they’ve already got is. We’ve already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). Paul isn't praying that Philemon will get something more from the Lord – because you cannot get anything more from God than you already have – he’s praying that Philemon’s faith would begin to work.

Is your faith working? Are you seeing results? We can all grow in this area. We can all experience more victory. Paul shares the key to activating your faith (that you already have), and it’s simply to “acknowledge every good thing that is in you in Christ Jesus.”
The word "acknowledge" means "to admit or to recognize" You can only acknowledge or recognize something that exists; something that you have. We already have the faith of God, and it will begin to work when we acknowledge it.

You’ve got the same faith Jesus has, inside of you. You’ve got all the faith you’ll ever need. You just need to acknowledge it. Stop falsely acknowledging that you don’t have faith, or that you need more faith, and start acknowledging that you’ve got Jesus Christ’s faith in you! Stop acknowledging that you’re weak and powerless. Start acknowledging that because you’ve got Jesus’ faith in you and that you will see results when you pray, and you can do that same works He did and greater! (John 14:12)

SAY IT ALOUD:  I recognize that I have all the faith I need. I recognize that I have the faith of Jesus in me and therefore my faith will accomplish much, my prayers will produce results and I will do the same works that Jesus did and greater. I am not weak and powerless. I can do all things because the Greater One lives in me. I recognize that by Jesus’ wounds I was healed, therefore I am healed. Any sickness in my body must leave now in Jesus’ Name! Amen!

NOW is the time for your healing!

2 Corinthians 6:2 KJV,
“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

I’ve heard many people say things like, “God hasn’t saved so and so yet.” Some even believe that God has a perfect time to save someone. So until He saves them, He wants them lost? That’s not correct. This verse in Corinthians clearly shows that God’s acceptable time for salvation is now. Not tomorrow, not next Tuesday and not in 15 years from now – He wants people to experience salvation now. Every moment someone isn’t saved, they’re perishing, and that is certainly not God’s will for anyone!

The word “salvation” in 2 Corinthians 6:2 in the Greek is “sōtēria” and means to rescue, deliver, or to heal. This verse is saying that God desires that each person be saved, free and healed - now. There is no waiting period with God. He has released the power of salvation and extended it towards each person. Now is the acceptable time of salvation and healing!

I’ve heard many people say things like “God hasn’t healed them yet” or “I’m trusting God to take away this pain” - but that puts the responsibility on God. “By Jesus’ wounds you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24) is past tense. Your healing has already been provided for. God has already done what He can. The gift of salvation and healing has already freely been given, now receive it, take it and walk in it – it’s yours!

This is one of the reasons why so many people do not experience healing: because they’re waiting on God to do something He’s already done. They’re asking Him to give them something that He has already given, and that already belongs to them.

Mark 11:24 KJV,
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Here is a key to receiving: when you pray, you have to believe that you’ve got it, even before you see it. Then you shall have it! Faith does not see and then believe. Faith sees it in the heart before it sees anything in the physical.

There is a whole invisible realm that we don’t see, and yet - it exists. Many of us just don’t experience it because we do not perceive and acknowledge that realm. Just because you don’t see the wind doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Isn’t it funny how many people will believe that they have some or other disease or sickness that they can’t see? They believe the evidence the doctor gives them, but they can’t see anything. A lot of those same people won’t believe in a God they cannot see, and yet there is so much evidence and witness testimony to the fact that He does exist. Many Christians don’t really believe what God’s Word says. The Word says “Jesus bore your sickness and disease” and “by Jesus’ wounds you have been healed”, and yet that is not enough evidence for them. We need to believe the Word.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: God wants me healthy and whole now! Now is His acceptable time of my healing, of my deliverance and of my salvation. God doesn’t want me to perish one moment longer. God’s Word says that by Jesus’ wounds I am healed, and therefore I declare that I am healed. God’s Word says that Jesus bore my sickness and carried my diseases, therefore I will not carry any sickness or disease. In Jesus’ Name I command every pain to go. Everything in my body that is out of balance, I command you now: come into balance and be whole! Any disease or illness that is attacking me: I resist you now and command you to GO NOW in Jesus Name, according to the will of the Almighty God. I declare that I am healed! Thank You Father!

Stop crying out to God!

After a dramatic turn of events, Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt where they had been slaves for 430 years.  Two to three million Hebrews had embarked on a mass-exodus out of bondage and they were headed for the land promised to them by God. But as they were leaving Egypt, the Pharaoh had a change of heart and rallied His army to pursue the Hebrews.

Exodus 14:9-18 ESV
“The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea… When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD.”

This is what most people do when they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place: cry out to God! Christian or not, when things look impossible there is only one Person to turn to – and hopefully He’ll sort things out. Then the people turned to their leader (Moses) and started moaning to him:

“They said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?  Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: 'Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness."

These Hebrews would rather have lived as slaves than died free. After seventeen generations of bondage, “God’s chosen people” (although suffering) must have been so familiar with their condition that it was difficult to imagine anything else, and they probably had a lot of fear at the thought of embracing change. Their fathers, and their fathers, fathers and their fathers, fathers, fathers were all slaves. They had adapted to this way of life, and learned to be slaves. Children were born into slavery, raised as slaves and knew little else. They were suffering, but they didn’t know any better. Bondage was what they knew. They were comfortable in it.

Often when you’ve been sick for an extended period of time, you learn to manage the condition. It becomes so much a part of you that even when you hear an altar-call for healing you don’t respond, because you either forgot you were sick (because you’re so familiar with it) or it’s no big deal, so you won’t bother anyone with it. Some people feel that it’s not worth receiving prayer for healing unless it’s a life-threatening illness (like cancer). But Jesus didn’t discriminate against small sicknesses. The Word says “He bore our sickness and carried our diseases.” This does not exclude small things like colds, allergies or headaches. He took it all.

Sickness is limited death. Its purpose is to steal life, money and energy from you. Sickness is destructive in nature and will not produce anything good in you. It’s a work of the devil to make your life miserable and keep you from fulfilling your purpose. God hates sickness so much that He paid a massive price through Jesus’ beating and crucifixion so that you could enjoy health. If you see sickness the way God sees it, then you won’t be complacent and passive with even a slight headache. If I found a snake in my house I would kill it. I wouldn’t care if it was small. How do I know if it’s harmless or not? A snake is a snake.

But let’s get back to our story in Exodus. The people have cried out to God and they have moaned at Moses. Now, Moses turns to the people with some encouragement:

“And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.  The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent."

This seems to be a typical word of encouragement for anyone in a tight situation: “Fear not, stand firm… the Lord will fight for you… you only have to be silent.” And I agree that in a crisis you need to “fear not” and “stand firm”. But the rest of that verse isn’t very good advice. I believe that it will actually cause passivity, which could kill you. Good Bible interpretation would ask the question, “Who is speaking?” The answer is: Moses. Did God say that to the people? No, Moses did. Let’s read the next part of the verse:

“The LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me?”

Looking at what God says to Moses, we can be sure that what Moses encouraged the people with was not what God would have said. God continued:

“Tell the people of Israel to go forward.  Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground.”

Here’s the truth which we need to take from this: We cannot ask God to do what He’s given us authority to do. God had given Moses the charge to lead the people out of bondage into the Promise Land. He never ever said to lead them into the Wilderness to be killed by their former oppressors.  God tells Moses that he must tell the people to go forward, lift up his staff (a symbol of authority) and stretch it over the sea (which was in front of them and preventing them from moving forward) and God tells Moses to divide the sea so that the people may “go through on dry ground”. God doesn’t say, “Ask Me to divide the waters”. He tells Moses, “I’ve given you authority. Use it. That power and authority is enough for you to deal with the problem you’re facing.”

Are you waiting for God to deliver you from the challenge you’re facing? The truth is that you have been delivered from the power of darkness (Colossians 1:13). Are you crying out to God and telling Him how big your problem is? The truth is that He has given you authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19) and has given you authority to speak to mountains (problems) and command them to move (Mark 11:23).

God has given you the authority to deal with your problems. He is with you and in you. You have everything you need. Don’t allow fear or passivity to hold you in bondage. Rise up and be who you are: an overcomer! (1 John 5:4)

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: I will not become familiar with any sickness. I am not happy to manage sickness in my life – it cannot stay in me. Thank You, Father, that I am not weak and powerless. Thank You for the authority that you have given me over all the power of the devil, including sickness. By the authority of Jesus, I command every demon attacking me to GO. In the Name of Jesus, I command every sickness and disease trying to destroy me to GO. I command recovery over my body. I speak life and health and peace. Jesus bore my sickness so that I do not have to. By His wounds I am healed! Greater is Jesus in me, than anything in this world! Amen!

God’s report on your health

Romans 10:17 KJV
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

God’s Word is the foundation of our faith. Do you know what God’s Word says concerning your life, and especially your health? Are you hearing what God’s Word says concerning your health? Sadly, many believers have heard what God’s Word says about healing but they aren’t hearing it today. They’ll say something like, “Yes, I have heard that God heals and the Bible says that healing is for today…” and they’ll share testimonies saying “I was healed once…” or “I knew a guy who was healed of something…”. But faith is a present tense reality. We need to be hearing what God’s Word says. It needs to be fresh for us in the here and now.  And this is what God’s Word says concerning your health: “By Jesus’ stripes you were healed!”  (1 Peter 2:24)

2 Peter 1:3 KJV
“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”

Faith is based on knowledge. We’ve been given “all things” for life (the practical) and godliness (the spiritual). That includes healing. We’ve been given everything we could need for every situation we could ever face and every task we need to accomplish. But we will only ever experience what is ours in proportion to “the knowledge of Him.” Remember that “faith comes by hearing… the Word” and so what you know is either liberating or imprisoning you. They say that what you don’t know won’t hurt you and ignorance is bliss. But the truth is that what you don’t know will kill you. (Hosea 4:6) And we’re not just talking about an intellectual awareness, but rather a heartfelt conviction which leads to action.

Many believers do not realize the power of the Word of God. They don’t realize what they’re missing out on by not studying the Word.

Psalms 119:89 KJV

“Forever, O LORD, thy Word is settled in heaven.”

Isaiah 40:8 KJV

“The grass withers, the flower fades: but the Word of our God shall stand for ever.”

1 Peter 1:25 KJV

“But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

What God says, is. What man says, might be. What man says is always subject to change. I know of someone who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer recently. When the doctor checked to see how far the cancer had progressed, it was gone! The woman had received prayer and experienced a miraculous healing! What the doctor had pronounced over her as the final word, changed. You need to stop holding onto the word of man (and your doctor) as if it is eternal and start holding onto God’s Word, which is eternal. It endures and stands forever. God is faithful!

Romans 3:4 KJV

“…let God be true, but every man a liar.”

What God says is always right, no matter what the opposition says. Any word contrary to God’s Word is a lie. So when God’s Word says, "Surely He hath borne our sicknesses and carried our diseases, yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted", we can know with confidence that our diseases and sickness were laid on Him. The scripture climaxes with the statement "by His stripes we are healed." God’s Word says it, therefore we know that we are healed. It is an issue of the integrity of the Word. Do you believe what God’s Word says, or does the doctor, other people and your circumstances hold more authority in your heart and mind?

Psalms 107:20 KJV
“He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Too few believers recognize the power of God’s Word to heal them. If God says “by Jesus’ stripes you were healed”, then it must be true.

Jeremiah 1:12 ESV

“…I am watching over my word to perform it."

He said that He carried our sickness and disease. Therefore we do not have to carry any sickness or disease. They cannot be a part of us, because they were already laid on Jesus.

Get into the Word and hear what God is saying to you. Hold fast to God’s Word. Don’t be moved by what people or circumstances tell you.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: What God says is true. He says that by Jesus’ stripes I was healed. Therefore I am healed! Every report which is contrary to God’s Word is a lie. God is faithful and His Word is true. He carried my sickness and bore my diseases. I do not have to. Thank You Jesus that healing and health are mine! I am healed, I am whole and I am well, in Jesus’ Name! Hallelujah!

The New Creation is not subject to sickness

Healing has been provided for you through Jesus’ complete work! Healing and health belong to you. God has graciously given it to you, now it’s yours for the taking.

Ephesians 2:8 ESV
“For by grace you have been saved (healed) through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”

The word “saved” comes from the Greek word “sozo” which can also be defined as “healed, delivered, prospered and made whole.” This reveals salvation as more than just forgiveness of sins but that it includes healing. Ephesians 2:8 shows us that salvation (and healing) has been provided for by God’s grace, now we need to receive it by faith. Faith isn’t complicated. It’s simply a positive response (receiving) what God has already provided. The more you are convinced of the Father’s grace, the easier it will be for you to receive. So keep focused on His goodness and love for you, and you’ll see your faith work (Galatians 5:6).

Romans 10:9 KJV
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

This scripture shows us clearly that in order to experience salvation (or healing) we must respond to God through heart belief and mouth confession. “Confess” means to acknowledge. In order to be saved or healed, we must acknowledge Jesus as Supreme and above all. Acknowledge Him as the Healer. He is God and He is above whatever sickness could come against you. He is above all and has the highest authority. To acknowledge Him as Lord also means to recognize that He is your caretaker; He is the One who has taken care of your every (health) need by lavishly providing for it.

Ephesians 1:3 KJV
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”

You have been blessed (past tense) with all spiritual blessings (including healing).

1 Peter 1:3 shows us that through the resurrection of Christ we are born again. I believe that “believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead” means to believe (be convinced) that through Jesus’ resurrection you’re made a new creation. In Christ you are a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Because of Jesus’ victory, and because you’re in Him, you’re a new creation. One translation says that you’re a “new species”. Most believers don’t really believe that much happened to them through the resurrection but the truth is that in Christ you are a completely new person. This new species is not subject to sickness and disease. This new creation is no longer dominated by sin or sickness. The old way of life (being dominated by sin and sickness) has passed away and now there is a new way!

1 John 5:1 ESV
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God…”

If you’re a believer, you’ve been born of God.

1 John 5:4-5 ESV
“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

If you’re born of God, you’re a world-overcomer with world-overcoming faith! You’re not struggling for faith. You’re not striving to overcome. You have world-overcoming faith and you have overcome the world. You have overcome the elements of the world (sin and sickness)!

Everything reproduces after its own kind. Plants reproduce plant life. Animals reproduce animal life. Humans reproduce humans. But if you’re a believer, you’re born of God. That means that you have God’s life inside of you. You are not "normal.”

Romans 8:11 ESV
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”

That’s supernatural! The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, the resurrection life and power of God, has taken residence in you (lives in you) and is giving life (and healing) to your mortal body. You are not like everyone else in the world, you of the same class as God: you are a world-overcomer! You are not subject to sin or sickness – you’re born-again a victor over sin and sickness! Hallelujah!

1 John 4:4 ESV
“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Greater is He in you than he that is in the world! You have the Healer living in you. How can sickness triumph over you? You’re bigger than sickness! The reason so many do not experience this is because they do not recognize it, or do not believe it.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: I acknowledge Jesus as my Healer. I acknowledge that He is above any and every sickness.  God is my caretaker: He has lavishly provided for any need I could ever have. He has given healing to me. I have the healing I need, in the Name of Jesus! I recognize that I am a new creation. I am not subject to sin and sickness. I am born of God. I am a world-overcomer. I have the life and power of God in me. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me, and gives life and healing to my mortal body. I am victorious because I am born of God; He lives in me and greater is He in me than anything in the world!

God is NOT going to heal you today

Yes, you read the title correctly: God is not going to heal you today! This is why so many people don’t experience healing - because they are waiting for God to do something.

1 Peter 2:24 ESV
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

Scripture says that “by His wounds you have been healed.” Through Jesus’ sacrifice, healing was provided for you. It’s important to note that this is in the past tense; “by His wounds you have been healed.” God is not going to heal you today, or release any healing power for you today, because He has already provided for your healing! More than 2000 years ago, God provided healing for every sickness and disease. The provision for your healing has already been given. God is not withholding your healing, neither is He rewarding people with healing. Healing and health is never a reward from God; it is a gift. God has already given you your healing, as a gift. This gift is completely independent of your performance. It is not dependent on your personal holiness or even your devotion to God.

This is where many people miss it. They assume that their being healed today is completely up to God. They are waiting on God to do something and move on their behalf. But God has moved. God has already acted on their behalf. Through Jesus, God has declared that He wants you well. Through Jesus’ sacrifice He has already released all the healing power that would ever be needed.

One of the reasons many people do not receive healing is that they don’t see healing as an accomplished fact. They see it as something that still needs to happen. They are waiting on God to do something, not realizing that He has already done it. “By His wounds you have been healed.” This is a statement of something that has already happened. It is an accomplished fact that through Jesus’ wounds you have been healed.

There is no need to ask God for healing, because He has already given it to you. Whether you deserve it or not is irrelevant; healing belongs to you. Stop asking God for healing and start praising Him for it. Start thanking Him that His will for you is healing, thank Him that He has already given healing to you and thank Him that you are healed! The gift (of healing) has been given.

But have you received it?

Another reason many don’t experience the healing that already belongs to them, is that they haven’t received it. They may still be begging God for healing, not realizing that it’s already in them, and that they just need to accept it.

Ephesians 2:8 ESV
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”

The biblical definition for the word “saved” means “healed, delivered, prospered and made whole.” Salvation is more than forgiveness of sins; it includes healing, wholeness, freedom and provision.

Ephesians 2:8 ESV
“For by grace you have been saved (healed) through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”

In His grace, God has given us healing; we experience that gift by receiving it (faith). God has generously provided salvation and healing for every person who shall ever live, but they need to receive it by faith. Faith experiences what grace has provided. Faith is being fully persuaded of what God has said. Faith is our positive response (faith) to what God has already done by His grace. Not everyone enjoys what God has graciously given because they are not believing and receiving it.

Romans 10:9 KJV
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Scripture shows us that we must believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths to be saved. This word “saved” also means “healed, delivered, prospered and made whole.” Salvation, and healing, is freely extended towards us by God’s grace, but it’s not automatic; it must be received by faith.

God is faithful. He has provided healing for all. All we need to do it receive it.

Tomorrow we will be looking more at faith and receiving our healing.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: God is not withholding healing from me. Scripture says that He has already healed me, therefore I am healed. My healing is in the past tense. It is done. It is finished. I am healed. By faith I declare that I am healed, I am whole and I am well. Sickness has no place in my life or in my body because by Jesus’ wounds I was healed. And if I was healed, then I am healed, in Jesus’ Name.

You’ve been set free from all works of darkness!

1 Peter 5:8 ESV
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

The only authority the enemy has in anyone’s life is that which they give him. It says that he is “seeking whom he may devour.” This means that he cannot just devour anyone; he needs us to cooperate with him. One of the ways we cooperate with the enemy is through wrong beliefs. If you believe that sickness is from God and you accept it as something good, and if you passively wait for God to deal with it, then the enemy will be able to cause you to perish and suffer longer than you should – you could even die. Wrongly believing that sickness is sometimes from God would prevent you from resisting the devil and his works (James 4:7).

There is no need to be scared of the devil! You’re a child of God with authority to use the Name of Jesus (John 14:14) and tell the devil to get lost! Many believers are more confident in the devil’s faithfulness to attack them and to cause misery, than in God’s faithfulness regarding His Word. Don’t focus on the devil’s works in your life: rather focus on what God’s Word says about you.

Colossians 1:13 KJV
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son”.

This is a wonderful truth for us as believers! If you can grab a hold of this, it will radically change your life. Firstly, you need to take note of what has already happened (past tense). God has already delivered you from (taken you out of) the power of darkness. You might see and feel the devil’s influence in your life or body. You might feel like he’s got a hold on you and is influencing you greatly, but that is all illegitimate. You have already been delivered (set free) from the power of darkness! If the devil can make you believe the lie that he’s got you, then he’ll have you. Many Christians live as if they’re in a jail - burdened and in bondage. But they just don’t realize that they were acquitted and declared innocent. Now the jail is unlocked and all they need to do is walk out of the cell. You’ve been set free. Now step into the freedom that is yours!

You have been taken out of the kingdom of darkness and translated (or transferred) into the kingdom of Jesus. You are no longer under the dominion of darkness. You have been taken out of the realm where sin dominates you, and you have been placed in the kingdom where grace reigns – you are free from sin! You’re existing in a new kingdom which has a new way of operating. Selfishness and hatred are now replaced by love and forgiveness. You’ve been taken out of sickness and placed in health. You’ve been set free from depression and have joy, peace and a sound mind!  Even though you’re in this world, you’re a citizen of another kingdom (Philippians 3:20). You no longer have to be dominated by the things that unbelievers are dominated by.

Ephesians 2:6 ESV

“and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”

Not only have you been taken out darkness and places in a better kingdom, but you have also been raised up to sit with Christ in heavenly places.  This speaks of your authority. You are seated in Christ “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named” (Ephesians 1:21). The authority, power and dominion that you have is far greater than all the demons in hell could have (altogether) over you. You are above every name that is named. Sickness has many names: Cancer, AIDS, Ebola, Diabetes ... the list continues indefinitely. You are seated, in Christ, far above any and every sickness! Any sickness in your body is 100% illegal, because you belong to a kingdom where health reigns.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD:  I have been taken out of the kingdom of darkness, and I have been placed into the Kingdom of Jesus! I am no longer dominated by darkness, nor any work of the devil. I have been taken out of depression, out of sickness and disease, and I am now living in joy and perfect health! Any sickness or infirmity in my body is 100% illegitimate and illegal, and in the Name of Jesus I command every illegal immigrant in my body to GO now! The devil is under my feet. Sickness and disease are under my feet. I have authority over the devil and his works, and therefore I declare healing, recovery and perfect health in my body! Amen!

Is God in control?

2 Peter 3:9 ESV  (brackets mine)
The Lord is …patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance (or salvation).

God’s desire (or will) is that no one should perish. John 3:16 confirms this, saying that Jesus came so that “whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus came to do the will of the Father (John 6:38), and that means that God’s will is that we should not perish. We’ve already seen how sickness is a means of perishing. Sickness certainly isn’t meant to bless us, or build us up, or improve our lives. No, sickness is destructive and our good, loving Heavenly Father does not want anyone to perish, or have sickness.

But if you look at life in general, people perish every day. Whether they perish after death in the after-life, or in this life through sickness, depression or poverty, many people perish. This raises a very important truth: God’s will doesn’t automatically come to pass.

When sickness comes or someone ends up in some tragedy, believers and unbelievers alike often blame God and wonder why He is allowing, or causing so much pain and suffering. If you don’t know that God’s will doesn’t automatically come to pass, then to make sense of your situation you might wrongly conclude that “God must have a purpose in this” or “maybe I still need to learn something, and that’s why I am not healed yet” or even worse, “maybe this is punishment for some sin I committed?”. People find comfort in these lies, but the truth is that although God desires that we not perish and He desire that we be in health (3 John 2), people perish every day. The reason is that God’s will doesn’t just automatically come to pass.

I heard about a teenager who overdosed on drugs and died. At the funeral, the minister declared that “God’s ways are higher than our ways, and God must have some purpose in this tragedy.” Sadly far too many Christians believe this, and yet it’s a load of rubbish. A loving, perfect Father would never force drugs on His child leading to their death! That’s not God.

John 10:10 AMP
“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”

The thief is the devil, and he is not working for God. The enemy is the one who steals, kills and brings destruction in your life, not God. God’s will for you is that you have and enjoy life to the full! Sickness is not abundant life, health and wholeness is.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Many believers wrongly quote this verse as “give thanks for all circumstances”, but it clearly says “in all circumstances” - not for all circumstances.” Not all circumstances in your life are from God, and so don’t thank Him for everything in your life. He is not the author of sickness, disease and torment. It is wrong to say something like: “Thank You so much, God, for this cancer that is destroying my body.” We don’t thank God for everything in our lives but we can thank Him in every circumstance. In the midst of cancer, pain and tragedy we can thank God that He is good, that He didn’t cause the problem, or allow it. We can thank Him that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that we have the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, living in us and that Spirit is causing life in our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). We can thank Him that He’s faithful, that He looks after us and provides for and cares for us, whether we manage to receive our healing or not. We can thank Him that even in the worst of situations we have a hope that not even death can take away. We always have a reason to rejoice and be thankful, no matter what the circumstances!

Romans 8:28 KJV
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

People misquote this scripture all the time. Firstly, this does not say that God causes all things, but rather that He “works all things together”. God is not the origin of everything going on in our lives.

People quote this verse saying “all things work together for good” which is incomplete. Or they’ll say that “God works all things together for our good” as if He is the one causing all things. All things do not always work out for everyone. How did God work someone’s death by suicide or murder out for good? Some good things might have come out of the situation, but ultimately it’s a tragedy. We comfort ourselves with ideas like this from this misquoted scripture to give ourselves some kind of false hope. But it has no anchor in it, and so it won’t hold for long.

This scripture is a promise for “those who love God” and not everyone loves God. This promise is in the context of making intercession (prayer for others) and so if we are not letting the Holy Spirit help us with intercession, then all things do not work together for good.

There is nothing good about sickness. Yes, you can learn a lot through suffering - but there is no need to. You can learn through the Word. God doesn’t need to use sickness to teach you anything.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

The scripture is given so that we can learn all we need to. The scripture’s purpose is to teach us, correct us and train us. It helps us become complete and equipped. You can learn from difficult situations and through suffering, but you do not have to. All you need to learn is in the Word.

James 4:7 ESV
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Many people wrongly believe that all the suffering in their lives is from God, for some greater purpose. But knowing that God is not the author of such things liberates us to resist them. To resist means “to actively fight against.” We should not be passive and allow sickness and suffering in our lives. We must actively fight against the devil and his works in our lives.

SAY IT OUT ALOUD: God is not the author of my problems. He is not the One causing or allowing sickness, disease and suffering. Thank You, Father! You are my answer not my problem! Right now I resist you devil and command you to GO in Jesus’ Name. Any sickness or disease in my body, I command you to leave now in Jesus’ Name. I am healed by Jesus’ stripes!

There is no sickness too big or too small for Jesus!

Mark 5:25-29 KJV
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,  (26)  And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, (27)  When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.  (28)  For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.  (29)  And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

This woman in the fifth chapter of Mark was in a desperate condition. Doctors had tried to help her for twelve years and it had cost her everything she had. Sadly, nothing helped and her condition only grew worse. The medical field’s purpose is to help people, and yet even today - with all the medical discoveries and advancements - many illnesses can only be managed, not cured. The medical field is limited, but with God all things are possible

The Bible says that “when she heard of Jesus” she went to him, knowing she’d be healed. She knew that Jesus could help her. Jesus’ reputation must have preceded him. People must have been saying that no medical condition was a problem for Him to heal - and that no one was ever denied healing. This is important: This woman never even asked Jesus for healing! She knew He was the healer, and she knew that if she just touched Him, she’d be well.  This shows that she knew Jesus wasn’t basing her healing on whether she deserved it or not. Do you feel like you don’t deserve your healing? Well, you may not deserve it, but Jesus wants you to be healed anyway! Maybe this woman knew of some adulterer who was healed of some deadly illness? Or maybe she heard the stories of Jesus just healing whoever came to Him, not asking any questions like “what sin is in your life?” or “was your grandfather practicing black magic?” Whatever she had heard, she was convinced that Jesus would not discriminate. She was so convinced that she knew if she just touched Jesus she would be healed. And the moment she touched Him, even just His clothes, she was made completely well.

You may have been given very little hope from your doctor. He or she may have told you that there is no hope. But don’t lose heart, because “with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). There is no sickness or disease that is too big for Jesus. When the scripture says that “by His stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24), there are no exclusions. The same power it takes to heal a cold can heal cancer. Sickness is sickness. Some sicknesses do have a worse effect on our bodies than others, but the answer for it is the same: Jesus paid for the healing of your allergies the same time He paid for healing of cancer or AIDS. A brain tumour is no big problem for God. Whatever your condition, it is no problem for God. Healing has been freely offered to you by the stripes (suffering) of Jesus on your behalf.

Keep looking to Jesus and what He has done for you. Don’t focus on your pain or your condition. Don’t meditate on your problem and speak about it. Focus on the solution, the glorious answer: by Jesus’ stripes you have been healed! He bore your sickness and disease so that you wouldn’t have to! Hallelujah!

SAY IT ALOUD: _________________________(insert your condition here) is no problem for Jesus, because all things are possible with God. No sickness or disease is too big, or too small for God. Jesus has not and will never deny me my healing for any reason. There is nothing that can disqualify me from receiving my healing. Healing is mine! Body, I tell you that you are healed, whole and well. Jesus bore my sickness so I wouldn’t have to. By His stripes I am healed! I am healed! Thank You, Jesus, for my healing!
